The painting Dealmakers (2018) is a diptych of two sprayed canvases that, as a contemporary mural, refers to one historically significant moment. Instead of an imperial coronation or anointment, the handshake between two creatures is depicted – the sealing of a deal. Upon closer inspection, doubts arise as to whether the contract will be concluded or whether these are two competitors, both fixated on the contents of the suitcase. Symbols resembling contemporary logos and documenting the origins of the characters float on either side of the images. The backdrop of this deal is superseded by an architectural shape reminiscent of ancient temples, also possibly referring to the Greek letter pi, the mathematical equivalent of the circle. This architectural landscape protrudes from a sea of undulated spray paint, suggesting the Earth has been engulfed in water and we now are in an age in which reptiles have taken control of the world.
