Natacha Donzé's "Legacy testimony II" appears mysterious at first glance: a billowing violet sparkling dimensions is seemingly held together only by four loose bands. Due to the extreme vertical format and the alluding to packaging, the painting acquires something object-like and is reminiscent of architectural elements such as columns or church windows. At the same time, the content of the painting dissolves and becomes elusive; depending on the viewer's background experience, a glimpse of the interstellar, the seductive packaging of perfume bottles, or polarized images of ice cores is revealed. Donzé often plays with this overlapping of iconographies, of microcosm and macrocosm, and the contrast between object and landscape in her works, which she embeds without hierarchy using meticulous brushwork and air brush techniques. In Legacy testimony II (2021), she addresses this complexity; the title refers, among other things, to ice cores as witnesses of time, documenting the constantly changing environment and actions of people in a value-free manner, layer by layer. Playfully, Donzé transforms familiar elements into enigmatic symbolism and thus summarizes different feelings about time and our society in one image.
