Reality is Not Always Probable (2021) is part of a series of wall objects in which Troika deals with the realization of patterns generated by a binary system. This work is characterized by a reduction to white dice on which only the numbers one and six are visible. This visualizes the fact that the algorithm creates emergent patterns from individual rows of cells with random binary information and develops a structure from the arbitrary. Reality is Not Always Probable is a physical re-enactment of what is factually invisible, yet still strongly influences our lives. The work reflects on the way the digital world is increasingly extending into the physical world. “The dice refer to our traditional relationship with fate and chance, while the algorithms are expressions of rapid technological and societal change that have become a powerful tool for both simulations and predicting our everyday reality."
