At the center of “8'20'' (Sun Stone 02)” (2025) stands a basalt stone upright, which surface reveals various degrees of treatment—both raw and finely polished. LED light emerges from a circular opening like an energetic core radiating from within the material. The spherical shape of the opening evokes associations with planetary systems, technoid portals or ritual objects—as if marking an interface between real and imagined dimensions. A solar panel connected to the stone generates the electricity for the light and responds to natural light conditions. Depending on the intensity of sunlight, the color of the LED changes between red and white. The work thus becomes a living system that stores the course of the sun and reflects it in a gently modulated glow. In this transformation of sunlight into artificial light lies a poetic metaphor for cyclical processes of energy and time. “8'20'' (Sun Stone 02)” is within the tradition of techno-spiritual practices that draw on natural energies while simultaneously reflect a post-industrial aesthetic. The combination of massive stone and light alludes to the ambivalence of permanence and transience, nature and artificiality, origin and progress. In the tension between the static carrier and the ephemeral medium of light, a contemplative space of resonance emerges, opening a dialogue between matter and energy, object and atmosphere.
