"Untitled" is a wall object made of aluminum that holds a leaf casted in black rubber, with the materials contrasting ambivalently in their fragility and hardness. In his works, Heerich is interested in the tensions that exist simultaneously within objects or situations. The polished stainless steel casing, whose form is reminiscent of minimalist architecture, shelters the once botanical material, which in turn exists between precision and fragility, between industrial aesthetics and individual physicality. The display-like appearance reinforces a feeling of distance and control, while the sculptural independence of the work suggests a techno-utopian aloofness. The interplay of hardness and fragility, sobriety and mystery opens up an existential as well as political dimension: What is really real?
