I is a large-format sculpture made of round and rectangular ferrite magnets, in which the rational balancing of compositional elements in interaction with one another is made clear. The rigid tower-like structure is similar to the architecture on the grid of the work AIRLINES. In I, the sculpture is detached from the grid and interacts directly with the gallery space. While circumnavigating the sculpture, the viewer can detect the diversity of the colors and structures of the material. This is characterized by the contrast between the vacant space and the weight and inherent nature of the individual rings: the large number of individual magnetized elements creates various strong, interacting forces that require a precise balancing of the magnetic fields. The geometric arrangement gives a sense of structure and order that asserts itself against the autonomy of the ferrite magnets. “I like that the fabrics I choose are not always completely controllable. In this way an abstraction can arise that is based purely on physical laws."
