Niko Abramidis & NE's canvas shows two figures against a desert-like background of gestural brushstrokes in pastel shades of pink and yellow. Both originate from his recurring repertoire of symbolic characters and are based on sketchy charcoal drawings, which the artist then executed in places in silver paint. One of these recurring figures in his works is “Oldfashioned-A” in a hat, suit and smoking a pipe, who stands for old values as well as those of modernity. This old-fashioned figure embodies aspects of the old economy as well as traditional and intellectual qualities. Following his leisurely pace, a well-known protagonist from Niko Abramidis &NE's artistic cosmos also joins him on the right. "Global Snake" resembles a larger-than-life caricature of a snake with a shrewd grin and a globe in its glowing eyes. Traditionally, snakes are associated with ambiguous qualities, but in this form, it is a symbol of globalization and the new economies associated with it. In Niko Abramidis &NE's visual worlds, the individual protagonists embody values and systems, whereby they cannot be clearly divided into good and evil, thus enabling the increasing complexity and simultaneity within a global narrative to be depicted. The characters, reminiscent of comic figures, are worked out in the artist's typical sharp-edged drawing style, which allows the symbolic content to come to the fore in the simplicity of the execution.
