Lukas Heerich’s "Amp" works oscillate between object and display, between functional clarity and narrative uncertainty. The polished stainless steel casings, reminiscent of minimalist architecture, house fragile vials. Glass bodies filled with unknown liquids are seemingly extracted from a medical laboratory and create a tension between precision and fragility, between industrial aesthetics and individual corporeality. The staging of these vials within the object raises questions about function and fiction: Are these artifacts part of a system of self-optimization, or remnants of a speculative scenario? The highly precise materiality of the steel contrasts with the delicate glass surface, while the liquids suggest a potential transformative power. They could be remedies or poisons, promises of progress or latent threats – an ambiguity that the work deliberately holds in suspense. Here, categories blur: Is this a display that suggests a fictional narrative, or an autonomous object with functional ambitions? The evocation of medical apparatus reinforces a sense of distance and control, while the sculptural autonomy of the work suggests a techno-utopian aloofness. The interplay of hardness and fragility, austerity and mystery, opens up both an existential and a political dimension: What is really real?
