Herresäter (Häradssäter, Herrsätter) är känt sedan 1400-talets slut, då det ägdes av en medlem av ätten Bese. År 1607 fick Erik Jöransson (Ulfsparre) godset i förläning. En huggen sten med ätten Ulfsparres vapen samt en vindflöjel med årtalet 1616 tyder på att byggnadsverksamhet ägt rum vid denna tid. Efter reduktionen indelades gården som majorsboställe vid andra livgrenadjärregementet, från 1833 disponerat som 1:e majorsboställe.
