År 1716 uppläts huset till den nyinrättade Skepps- och galäreskadern. Här inrymdes en del expeditioner och verkstäder, men framför allt bostäder för högre befattningshavare på Skeppsholmen. Vid mitten av 1800-talet började detta hus, liksom det Östra boställshuset, att kallas Långa raden. 1958-59 byggdes huset om till administrationslokaler åt Marinen. 1935 blev Västra boställshuset statligt byggnadsminne.
