Tåg vid stationen. Medeltida stad med slott och kyrkor och bevarad stadsplan från 1665, residensstad. Viktig f d textilstad med industrikomplex från 1700-talet till tidigt 1900-tal utmed ån samt hamn med äldre magasin och hamnkontor. I staden finns enstaka byggnader och mindre sammanhängande miljöer från tidsperioden 1720-1830. Från decennierna omkring 1900 härstammar en del institutionsbyggnader med bevarat formspråk och utstuderat läge och bostadsområden med tidstypiska miljöinslag.
