Huset ligger vid Stigbergstorget i Majorna och har sitt namn efter svenska flottans kommendör Lars Gathenhielm. Huset byggdes av dennes svåger någon gång mellan 1743-1747 och är Göteborgs enda bevarade storborgarhus i trä från 1700-talets mitt. 1943 blev det Sveriges första byggnadsminnnesförklarade hus.
