I början av 1600-talet uppförde greve Magnus Brahe Brahekyrkan på den medeltida Ströja kyrkas grund. Det enda Magnus Brahe behöll från den äldra kyrkan var tornet samt den vackert ornamenterade dörren till sakristian - den satt troligen ursprungligen i Ströja kyrkas huvudingång. Magnus Brahe hann dock inte uppleva kyrkans förfärdigande, det var hans brorson Per Brahe d y som ärvde bygget och invigde den nya kyrkan 1636.
