Bollaltebygget ligger i den sydhalländska skogsbygden på västkanten av sydsvenska höglandet. I mitten av reservatet ligger en ovanligt väl bevarad äldre fyrlängad gård med rötter i 1600-talet. De tre uthuslängorna är ursprungliga medan mitten av bostadshuset, en högloftsstuga, flyttades från grannbyn Jonsnahult på 1930-talet.
