Varvte anlades 1915 på initiativ av Artur Du Rietz. 1940 övertog Götaverken varvet och 1965 förvandlades det till en ren produktionsanläggning under Götaverken. 1977 blev Öresundsvarvet en del av Svenska Varv. 1982 levererades det sista nybygget från varvet. Varvsverksamheten dog dock inte helt ut med att nybyggnationen upphörde. Verksamheten fortsatte, som reparations-och ombyggnadsvarv, först under namnet Cityvarvet Öresund men 1992 återtog man sitt gamla namn Öresundsvarvet.
