Carl Larsson (1853?1919) var en av Sveriges mest uppskattade konstnärer. Tack vare sin talang målade han sig upp och bort från Stockholms slum där han växte upp. I Frankrike mötte han Karin Bergöö, som kom att bli hans hustru. Hon var en skicklig textilkonstnär och båda var mycket intresserade av heminredning. 1888 fick de ta över Lilla Hyttnäs, ett litet hus i Sundborn, strax utanför Falun. Här skapade de tillsammans ett för den tiden både annorlunda och överraskande hem. Rummen är ljusa, färgglada och har en påtagligt trivsam atmosfär.
