Huset går även under namnen Palacehuset och Sockerbruket. Det uppfördes som sockerbruk för handelsman N Jacobsson och ritades av arkitekt Carl Hårleman, med invigning 1751. Stora delar förstördes i bränder 1792 och 1813, men återuppbyggdes. 1841 köptes det av grosshandlare Eduard Magnus och gjordes om till bostad. Dottern Göthilda Magnus och dennas man Pontus Fürstenberg byggde till en våning för att få plats med sin stora konstsamling; Fürstenbergska galleriet. Fastigheten och samlingen testamenterades sedan till Göteborgs kommun (konsten finns idag på Göteborgs konstmuseum). Huset såldes oc…
