Under 1620-talet byggdes Sveriges första stuteriverksamhet upp här. Hästuppfödningen skulle förse armen med hästar och här kunde militärerna lära sej att behärska ridkonsten. 1868 blev det förläggningsort för armens rid- och körskola under 100 år. Idag är det center både för utbildning och administration inom hästsporten.
