Ulvön består av två öar vilka delas av Ulvösundet, som bildar en stor och naturlig hamnbassäng. På 1500-talet anlades Ulvösundet Ulvöhamn av gävlefiskarna och var fram till 1950-talet norrlandskustens största och mest kända fiskeläge. Numera är antalet yrkesfiskare reducerat till endast ett par stycken.
