På platsen låg tidigare kasernområdet för Kronprinsens husarer, vilket har gett byggnaden dess namn. Tanken med Kronprinsen var att det skulle bli en stad i staden. Därför fanns förutom bostäder och kontor också restauranger, läkarmottagning, kyrka, tennis- och bowlinghall samt inte minst ett inom hustorg med butiksgator. Från översta våningen i höghuset sändes intern-TV fram till 1980-talet. Efterkrigstidens folkhem var en social och politisk vision av stora mått. Rättvisa och trygghet, välfärd, folkfostran och demokrati skulle byggas in i det svenska samhället och förändra svenskarnas varda…
