Seated portrait of a man inferred from the accompanying caption as John I. Murray, who raised Murray's Jat Horse during the 1857-1858 Indian Uprising, later known as the 14th Bengal Lancers. He is dressed in his regiment's uniform, with a paisley sash tied around his waist. He rests one arm on a table covered with a tablecloth with a foliage motif.
