Gamtos skyriuje 1932 m. buvo eksponuojama apie 120 Biržų apylinkėse sumedžiotų paukščių ir gyvūnų. Muziejaus tarnautojas Mykolas Staškevičius juos pats medžiojo ar gyventojų atneštus rūpestingai iškimšdavo. Muziejaus lankymas bent penkis kartus padaugėjo, kai gamtos ekspoziciją papildė 176 kg sveriantis šernas, 1929 m. užmuštas per Kalėdas Pačeriaukštės dvaro darbininkų J.Grigonio ir R.Kundzinio. Dažnas lankytojas norėjo šerną paglostyti ir išpešti atminimui nors vieną šerį. Todėl muziejininkai buvo priversti šerną uždaryti stiklinėje vitrinoje.
