Rakennuksessa toimi alun perin Venäjän Aleksanterin kimnaasi ja vuosina 1919–1923 Suomen Kadettikoulu. Oikealla on asuinrakennus Pohjoinen Rautatiekatu 11 – Nervanderinkatu 1. Kuvassa etualalla näkyvälle paikalle, Olavinkatu 2 – Eteläinen Rautatiekatu 4, valmistui vuonna 1980 suuri kiinteistö, jossa toimii muun muassa Hotelli Presidentti.
