Eigenhändiges Manuskript und eigenhändige Zeichnung des Vesuv von Christian Leopold von Buch (26.04.1774, Stolpe a. d. Oder – 04.03.1853, Berlin), Geologe, 22.01.1805. Leopold von Buch war einer der bedeutendsten Geologen seiner Zeit. Er studierte gemeinsam mit Alexander von Humboldt an der Bergakademie Freiberg. Zunächst interessierte ihn insbesondere der Vulkanismus, später wurden Fossilien sein Hauptforschungsgebiet. Ende 1848 zählte von Buch zu den Begründern der Deutschen Geologischen Gesellschaft.
