Onnettomuus herätti runsaasti huomiota ja johti nujakkaan palokunnan ja venäläisten matruusien välillä heidän kiisteltyään sammutustoimista. Kiistan seurauksena sammutustoimet epäonnistuivat ja laiva upposi satamaan. Ks. kuva N1918.
