The COVID-19 pandemic had a disproportionate impact on the African American community. The highest death rates of the pandemic were in the African American community. It was an extremely difficult time for everyone in the country and every facet of our lives were affected. During that period, many schools were either closed or had limited classes. A relative decided to leave her children in school during the pandemic. I recall the first day of their return to school. It rained on that day. I love walking in the rain. I took the rain as a sign a renewal and hope the pandemic would soon dissipate, and everybody's life would go back to normal.
