Blick in ein unbelaubtes Waldstück mit knorrigen Baumstämmen mit kahlen Ästen. Im Bildmittelgrund auf einer Bank sitzt ein Mann, in altdeutsche Tracht gekleidet, die Arme vor der Brust verschränkt, nachdenkend oder schlafend. Um 90 Grad nach links gedreht. August Wilhelm Julius Ahlborn war seit 1819 an der Berliner Akademie und Schüler von Karl Wilhelm Wach. Seit 1833 war Ahlborn Mitglied der Berliner Akademie.
