Als diese Miniatur entstand, war Katharina Pawlowna, Tochter des russischen Zaren Paul I. (reg. 1796-1801), 27 Jahre alt, Mutter zweier Kinder und Witwe des Herzogs von Oldenburg. Der Hofmaler Napoleons Jean-Baptiste Isabey hat sie 1815 als mädchenhafte Schönheit auf dem Wiener Kongress porträtiert. Hier begegnete die gleich von mehreren Fürsten umschwärmte Katharina zum ersten Mal Kronprinz Wilhelm von Württemberg (reg. 1816-1864). Wenige Monate später heirateten sie.
