König Wilhelm I. von Württemberg (reg. 1816-1864) ließ sich ab 1837 ein höchst privates Refugium erbauen, eine exotische Anlage im Maurischen Stil, ein von Gärten umgebenes, später "Wilhelma" genanntes Ensemble mit einem Wohngebäude, Gewächshäusern, Wandelgängen und Wasserspielen - eine schwäbische Alhambra am Neckarstrand. Zugang hatten nur wenige, ausgewählte Personen. Das Aquarell mit der Darstellung der "Wilhelma" wird in der Plansammlung des Landesmuseums aufbewahrt.
