Das bemerkenswerte Bildnis des Malers Friedrich Görtitz (1890-1973) ist 1913 entstanden, als Otto Dix und Görtitz gemeinsam die Königlich Sächsische Kunstgewerbeschule in Dresden besuchten. Das auf der Rückseite signierte Werk erscheint in seinem Verismus wie ein Vorgriff auf den Stil der Neuen Sachlichkeit, der Mitte der 1920er Jahre in Deutschland populär wurde.
