Die Fantasielandschaft ist bühnenartig aufgebaut. Im Vordergrund zieht ein vornehm gekleideter Reiter mit Begleiter zu Fuß und Hunden vorbei in den sich links öffnenden Wald hinein. Er weist mit ausgestrecktem Arm nach rechts in die Tiefe des Bildes. Dort erhebt sich im Mittelgrund eine mittelalterlich anmutende große Burganlage, die von einem Wassergraben umgeben ist. Davor weiden Kühe. Hinter dem Wasserschloss geht die hügelige Landschaft in der Ferne in ein steiles, felsiges Hochgebirge über. [Olaf Siart]
