Die kunstvoll gefertigte Schnelle zeigt in ihrem Bildprogramm Passionsdarstellungen, außerdem Allegorien der Monate Februar, März und April. Den Deckel ziert eine in Bronze gegossene und vergoldete Herkulesfigur, der den Löwen besiegt hat. Dieses Motiv steht symbolisch für eine siegreiche, ihren Feind überwindende Kirche. Im katholischen Siegburg jener Zeit kann damit nur der Protestantismus gemeint sein. Die Schnelle war nicht nur Gebrauchsgeschirr, man sah in ihr darüber hinaus ein Kunstwerk mit einem eigenen Sinngehalt, ähnlich wie Gemälde oder Plastiken. Auch das Monogramm „LW“ zeigt, dass sich der Töpfer nicht als namenloser Handwerker, sondern eher als individueller Künstler verstanden hat.
