Als diese Idealansicht des Lustschlosses Solitude entstand, waren gerade erst seine Fundamente fertig. Unweit von Stuttgart und doch einsam auf einem bewaldeten Bergrücken gelegen, wurde das Schlösschen später die bevorzugte Sommerresidenz von Herzog Carl Eugen von Württemberg (reg. 1774-1793). Der offene Sockel und die schwingenden Freitreppen geben ihm eine fast schwebende Erscheinung, die an Sanssouci, das Lustschloss von Friedrich dem Großen, in Potsdam erinnert. Die Ansicht von Schloss Solitude ist in der Schausammlung "LegendäreMeisterWerke" im Alten Schloss ausgestellt.
