Ätzradierung von Ostermayer nach einem Gemälde von Claude Lorrain, herausgegeben in Dessau im Jahr 1797. Claude Lorrain (1600-1682) war ein französischer Maler und Kupferstecher. Hauptsächlich in Rom wirkend, trugen seine idyllisch-arkadischen Landschaftsbilder dazu bei, die Landschaftsmalerei als eigenes Genre zu etablieren. U.a. die von Lorrain erschaffenen idealisierten Landschaften dienten in der Folge als Vorbild sowohl für die englische Landschaftsmalerei des 18. und 19. Jahrhunderts sowie für die ersten englischen Landschaftsparks.
