Der Inschrift zufolge entstand Nicolaus Heideloffs Stich während seiner Ausbildung an der Hohen Karlsschule in Stuttgart. Er arbeitete nach einer Vorlage des Landschaftsmalers Adolf Friedrich Harper, der von 1759-1798 in Stuttgart als Hofmaler wirkte und an der Akademie das Fach Landschaft unterrichtete. Gezeigt ist eine Flusslandschaft; in der rechten Bildhälfte sind zwei Turmruinen dargestellt, hinter denen sich eine Gebirgskette erhebt. Im Vordergrund gehen mehrere Staffagefiguren verschiedenen Tätigkeiten nach. Zu der Darstellung existiert ein Pendant mit dem Titel "Le Soir" (Stadtarchiv Stuttgart 9050/04622).
