Die Lithographie von Franz Schnorr entstand 1855, nachdem die Martinskirche in Möhringen grundlegend umgebaut worden war. Im Laufe des 19. Jahrhunderts war der aus dem Mittelalter stammende Vorgängerbau zu klein geworden; zunächst wurde der Turm erneuert, dann das Kirchenschiff abgebrochen und nach einem Entwurf des Architekten Christian von Leins ersetzt. Aufgrund seiner für den Ort sehr ausladenden Dimensionen wurde das Gebäude auch "Filderdom" genannt.
