Die Lithografie ist Teil einer Reihe von 65 Porträts, die die Abgeordneten der Frankfurter Nationalversammlung von 1848/49 zeigen. Sie wurde von der S. Schmerber'schen Buchhandlung in Frankfurt am Main veröffentlicht. Das von Fritz Hickmann lithografierte Porträt basiert auf einer fotografischen Aufnahme Hermann Biows. Dargestellt ist Friedrich Ludwig Jahn im Brustausschnitt, den aufrechten Körper nur leicht nach rechts aus der Bildebene hinausgedreht. Jahn ist heute vor allem als "Turnvater Jahn" für die Initiierung einer deutsch-nationalen Turnbewegung bekannt.
