Johann Jacob Haid schuf diesen Kupferstich 1740 in Augsburg. Als Vorlage diente ihm ein auf 1710 datiertes Selbstporträt Johann Rudof Hubers (vgl. Inv.-Nr. 9050/4018, hierin ist das Porträt seitenverkehrt wiedergegeben). Es zeigt den Maler in Halbfigur vor einer Staffelei stehend, in der rechten Hand eine Palette, Pinsel und einen Malstock haltend. Die linke stützt sich auf einen Tisch am rechten Bildrand, auf dem eine halb entrollte Zeichnung liegt. Der in einen schimmernden Stoff gehüllte Körper ist nach rechts gewendet, der Kopf beschreibt eine Gegenbewegung nach links. Im unteren Drittel des Blatts ist eine Brüstung zu sehen, der eine Kartusche vorgeblendet wurde. Sie nennt in einer Inschrift wichtige Stationen in Hubers künstlerischer Laufbahn, u. a. dass er von 1697 bis 1699 Hofmaler in Stuttgart war.
