Die Lithografie erschien in einer Reihe von 65 Porträts, die die Abgeordneten der Frankfurter Nationalversammlung von 1848/49 zeigt. Dargestellt ist Hans Reimer Claussen, der neben seiner Juristentätigkeit bereits früh auch politisch aktiv war. Das Brustporträt von Valentin Schertle entstand nach einer Fotografie von Hermann Biow und zeigt Claussen im Dreiviertelprofil von links. Verlegt wurde der Druck von der S. Schmerber'schen Buchhandlung in Frankfurt am Main.
