Die Lithografie ist Teil einer Reihe von 65 Porträts, die Abgeordnete der Frankfurter Nationalversammlung von 1848/49 zeigen und in der S. Schmerber'schen Buchhandlung in Frankfurt am Main veröffentlicht wurden. Das von Valentin Schertle nach einer Fotografie Hermann Biows gearbeitete Brustporträt zeigt den Arzt und Politiker Franz Jacob Wigard. Sein Körper ist im Halbprofil nach rechts gedreht gezeigt, wärend sein Kopf den Betrachtenden zugewandt ist und im Dreiviertelprofil erscheint. Unterhalb der Darstellung wurde Wigards Unterschrift als Faksimile abgedruckt.
