Die Radierung zeigt Cézannes Freund, Armand Guillaumin, neben der Skizze eines gehängten Mannes. Zwischen den beiden scheint jedoch kein inhaltlicher Zusammenhang zu bestehen. Vielmehr spielt das Galgenmännchen auf ein Gemälde Cézannes an, dass das Haus eines Gehängten in Auvers-sur-Oise zeigt. Ähnlich verhält es sich mit der Kaltnadel von Matisse rechts, die als eine Art Skizzenblatt verschiedene Aktstudien und Köpfe vereint. Edition / Auflage I (von I)
