Das als Kniestück gestaltete Porträt des preußischen Generals Freiherr Hugo von Obernitz wurde von August Weger nach einer Fotografie gestochen. Es zeigt den Dargestellten in aufrechter, fast frontaler Pose, die linke Hand an das an seiner Hüfte hängende Schwert gelegt, die rechte auf einen Tisch mit einem Schriftstück gestützt. Von Obernitz kommandierte im Deutsch-Französischen Krieg von 1870/71 die Württembergische Feld-Division.
