Die Zeichnung ist Teil eines Konvoluts von Porträts, die Angehörige der Familie Plieninger zeigen und zu Teilen von dieser gestiftet wurden. Das Familienarchiv Plieninger ist in den Beständen des Stadtarchivs Stuttgart überliefert. Dargestellt ist Mathilde Plieninger (geb. Erhard, 1802-1852) im Brustausschnitt auf dem Totenbett. Die Bleistiftzeichnung zeigt sie im Halbprofil von links, mit einer von Rosen bekränzten Haube bekleidet. Auf der Brust liegt ein kleiner Strauß Blumen. Von ihrem Ehemann, dem Obertribunaldirektor Ernst Friedrich Theodor Plieninger (1806-1877), existiert ebenfalls ein Porträt auf dem Totenbett.
