1840 ließ König Wilhelm I. von Württemberg das Wilhelmatheater erbauen. Architekt war Karl Ludwig Wilhelm Zanth. Die aquarellierte Zeichnung stammt von einem anderen für Stuttgart bedeutsamen Architekten, Christian Friedrich Leins. Er hielt 1841 das neu errichtete Theater im Bild fest. Es ist am linken Blattrand seitlich von rechts zu sehen; in der rechten Blatthälfte folgt der Blick dem Neckar auf die Cannstatter Wilhelmsbrücke zu. Rechts davon ist gut der Turm der Stadtkirche zu erkennen.
