Der kolorierte Stich ist der vierte aus einer Folge von sechs Blättern, die Szenen aus dem Leben Herzog Ulrichs von Württemberg illustrieren. Er war der erste protestantische Fürst des Landes; seine Person wird bis heute kontrovers diskutiert. Beide Faktoren mögen die Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts im Verlag C. Riedel in Nürnberg verlegte Folge motiviert haben. In einem Text unterhalb des Bildes wird die Darstellung jeweils näher erläutert. Die Entwürfe für die Illustrationen stammen von Peter Carl Geissler oder dessen Sohn Rudolf und wurden von Johann Michael Eberlein gestochen.
