Albrecht wurde 1511 der Hochmeister des Deutschen Ordens in Preußen. 14 Jahre schloss er sich der Reformation an und wandelte das Deutschordensland in das evangelische Herzogtum Preußen um, dessen erster Herrscher er wurde. Die Inschrift nennt die Titel und den Todestag Albrechts: ALBRECHT MARGRAFF ZU BRANDENBURG IN PREUSSEN ZU STETTIN POMERN DER CASSUBE UND WENDEN ETC HERZOG BURGRAFF ZU NYRBERG UND FURST ZU RUGEN STARB DEN XX MARTII A(nn)o MDLXVIII. Albrecht war ein Bruder des ansbachischen Markgrafen Georg, dessen Tochter Anna Maria mit dem württembergischen Herzog Christoph verheiratet war. [Matthias Ohm/Delia Scheffer]
