Die Lithografie zeigt eine Ansicht des ehemaligen Hoftheaters in Stuttgart. Es lag am Schlossplatz; am rechten Bildrand ist der Torbogen zu erkennen, der das Gebäude mit dem linken Flügel des Neuen Schlosses verband. Im Ursprung wurde der Bau auf Wunsch Herzog Ludwigs von Württemberg als Ort für Festlichkeiten sowie der Höfischen Repräsentation errichtet. Dieses "Lusthaus" wurde 1593 fertiggestellt; ab 1750 wurde es als Opernhaus genutzt und mehrfach umgebaut. Auf Befehl König Wilhelms I. (1781-1864) kam es 1844/45 schließlich zum Abriss; Überreste des Gebäudes sind heute im Schlossgarten zu sehen.
