Das Blatt ist Teil eines Albums mit 16 Lithografien, die Motive aus Stuttgart und der Umgebung zeigen. Es handelt sich um das vierte Blatt, das eine Ansicht des Stuttgarter Marktplatzes um 1840 wiedergibt. Links im Bild sind der Marktbrunnen und das Rathaus zu sehen; der aus der Renaissance stammende Bau wurde Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts abgebrochen. Das frontal zur Bildebene gelegene prächtige Bürgerhaus mit drei Erkern war das Lotter'sche Haus.
