Photographic reproduction of a drawing by Charles Wirgman, depicting a street parade leading to public execution that is about to take place. The condemned man, Shimizu Seiji, sits on a horse with his hands tied behind his back, following a group of men and soldiers carrying rifled muskets, while a large crowd gathered along the sides of the street. Visible in the foreground are spectators wearing traditional Japanese and Chinese garments, as well as western-style clothing.
