Es handelt sich vermutlich um den Sohn Johann Wolfarts von Holland-Brederode (1599 - 1655) aus seiner zweiten Ehe mit Louise Christina von Solms-Braunfels (1606 - 1669). Er war der letzte Herr von Holland-Brederode in direkter Nachfolge. Der Abgebildete wäre dann der Cousin von Louise von Dohna (1633-1690), Herrin auf Rheydt, gewesen, weil Louise Christina ihre Tante war. Er war gleichzeitig der Halbbruder von Sophie Theodore von Holland-Brederode (1620-1678), Louises Schwägerin und Tochter aus der ersten Ehe Wolfarts. Sie hatte Louises Bruder Christian Albrecht geheiratet.
